Candle Care 101

Enjoy a cleaner burn, better scent throw, and longer candle life.

Why Your First Burn Matters:

Let your candle melt all the way to the rim of the jar during the initial burn—this may take a few hours. Allowing the wax to fully liquefy across the top helps the candle remember how to melt in the future and prevents tunneling along the sides. When a candle tunnels, you lose usable wax and dramatically shorten its overall burn time.

Keep Your Wick Short:

For optimal performance, wooden wicks should be kept nice and short. For an even, steady flame, aim to keep the wick around ¼ inch in height.

This means you’ll want to give your wick a quick trim from time to time. After the initial burn, it’s a good habit to trim the wick before each lighting to maintain a clean, consistent burn.

How Long to Burn Your Candle:

Avoid burning your candle for longer than four hours in a single session. Limiting burn time helps maintain the quality of the scent and ensures a safer burn overall.

Wooden wicks naturally burn lower & slower

Customers sometimes think a smaller flame means something is wrong—but that’s normal.
Wood wicks create:

  • A shorter flame

  • Slower burn

  • More even melt pool

  • A soft crackle
